Effluent pumps are essentially sump pumps on steroids. 

They range in horse power from 1/4 -horse , 1/3, 1/2, 3/4, 1 and up.  Although they are used primarily for pumping semi-clear liquids, most centrifugal's can pass 5/8" solids.
